Konjaku means “then and now.” Begin with one of three new Kyogen plays inspired by Akizuki’s history. After the performance, walk through present-day Akizuki along the paths of that story. Each story has its own route.

FAQ

Before you book

Confirmed conditions and items awaiting confirmation are explained below.

Do I need to book?

Yes. Advance booking is required by 12:00 noon JST, three days before the experience. A phone number including country code is required when booking for urgent booking-related contact. If you use WhatsApp or another messaging app, you may also provide the app name and contact details; this is optional.

When can I join?

Confirmed dates are November 18 and December 16, 2026, and January 20 and February 17, 2027. The usual program runs from 10:00 to 14:00 Japan Standard Time (JST). Additional dates may be added.

What are the prices and age requirements?

Prices include tax: JPY 15,000 per guest aged 13 or older; JPY 10,000 per child aged 6-12. Children under 6 cannot participate. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The 13+ price category does not mean the guest is an adult or guardian.

How many guests are required?

Each booking requires 2-10 guests in total. Each departure operates with a minimum of 2 guests and a maximum of 10 across all bookings. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Where do we meet and finish?

Meet and finish at Akizuki VOX, 586 Akizuki, Asakura, Fukuoka, Japan. Look for the white noren (fabric curtain) marked “秋月 VOX” at the entrance. Please come inside and speak to a staff member.

What languages are used on site?

The local guide can converse in some English and uses a translation app to support explanations. Fluent English guiding or interpreting is not guaranteed. The performance has projected English story highlights and a five-language guide sheet, rather than a line-by-line translation of the dialogue. The page language does not indicate the language spoken on site.

What happens if it rains?

In light rain, the usual program runs; umbrellas and rain ponchos are available to borrow. In heavier rain without a relevant warning, the guide may switch to an indoor program of about two hours: a Kyogen performance, hands-on activities, and a local-ingredient bento meal and conversation with the performer. There is no town walk. If you join, the price is reduced by 50%. For bookings paid at the normal price, we refund JPY 7,500 per adult or JPY 5,000 per child to the original payment method. If you decline a rain-plan change, whether announced the day before or on the day, no payment or cancellation fee is due and any amount already paid is refunded in full. Around 17:00 the day before, we decide on the usual or indoor program and notify you by email. Please reply with your choice by 21:00 that day. If you have not replied, Taro Ishii will contact you individually; your booking is not automatically cancelled. At 07:00 on the day, we check for relevant warnings. Without a warning, the previous day’s decision stands, except that the guide may switch indoors if heavier rain develops at the venue. The meeting place and 10:00 start remain the same. An indoor program decided the day before runs 10:00–12:00. If the program switches indoors after the experience starts, it lasts about two hours from the switch, rather than ending at a fixed noon time. A heavy-rain or storm warning, or a higher-level warning for either hazard, for Asakura City means cancellation: no payment or cancellation fee is due and any amount already paid is refunded in full. We also cancel and contact guests if such a warning is newly issued after 07:00. All times are Japan Standard Time (JST). Refunds cover only money actually received, less any refunds already made. These weather rules take precedence over ordinary cancellation fees.

What is the cancellation policy?

Ordinary direct-booking cancellation fees use Japan Standard Time calendar dates: no fee through 23:59 four days before the experience; 50% of the booking total from 00:00 three days before through 23:59 the day before; 100% from 00:00 on the experience date or for no-shows. For prepaid bookings, the corresponding refunds are 100%, 50% and 0%. If you decline the indoor rain program or the organizer cancels due to a weather warning, the amount paid is refunded in full. Joining the indoor program costs half the normal price, so 50% of the normal price paid is refunded. Weather rules take precedence over ordinary cancellation fees. Bookings through other platforms follow the terms and procedures of that booking. Ordinary cancellation fees also apply to cash bookings, even though no payment is collected at booking.

Can dietary requirements be accommodated?

Specific allergy, vegetarian, vegan, and halal arrangements are still being confirmed. Please do not assume accommodation until it is confirmed through the official booking channel.

Can wheelchair users participate?

Steps, slopes, surfaces, and the route are being checked on site. Wheelchair participation is not yet guaranteed.

Is this private, and can I choose the play or route?

This is a small-group experience with a local guide; exclusive use of the entire experience is not guaranteed. The play varies by date, and the walk follows its story. You cannot choose a play or route when booking. Conversation with the Kyogen performer is planned during lunch.
